What do we do?
The internet is full of false positive with 70 million hits when you search on “health insurance rates”. There are not 70 million insurance companies operating in the world today. In fact, to sell you insurance, a company must be licensed by your individual state. Most US states have fewer than 1,000 licensed insurers.
When you come on to this site, we automatically identify your ISP and “assume” you live in the state where this ISP is located. If this assumption is wrong, please select the correct state from the pull-down menu.
There’s a single questionnaire to collect a few brief personal details about your health plan needs. This is then sent out only to the insurers able to write a policy for you.
Could you do this yourself?
Sure. You go along to the website operated by your state’s Insurance Department or Commissioner. There you’ll find the current list of all the companies holding a license. Copy that list and start googling their URLs. There will be a questionnaire to answer for each site. It will take you time, but you’ll get there in the end.
So, in a single, convenient package, we give you direct access to all the licensed insurers in your state with only one questionnaire.
Why do it now?
Health insurance has changed from something taken for granted into a major political headache. Although there have always been those on or below the poverty line unable to afford private health cover, the majority have found cover through work or personal policies. But the last ten years have seen costs rise across the board. Employers have begun to cut back on the plans on offer. Premiums on individual policies have been rising way faster than inflation. The result is there will soon be 50 million Americans without current health cover. That means everyone has to make their dollars go further.
How many affordable policies are there “out there”?
When you use this site, you’ll find a significant number of cheap health policies. Approach these with great caution. Most have only limited cover for the more serious diseases and injuries. Almost all allow the insurer to increase the premium sharply at the end of the first year. Use this site to build up a short list of health insurance companies that offer better terms — yes, that does mean you have to read the small print of the policies. Then start negotiating to get a reasonable basic minimum cover for the more serious conditions that would require surgery or longer term care. Keeping the policy down to simple requirements provides affordable cover. Hopefully, the Obama Administration will resolve the systemic health insurance problems over the next year or so.
